Second Community orchard planted in EarleySaturday 13th February 2016 saw the planting of the second Community Orchard, in Laurel Park. All the trees were funded through local sponsors and donations from local organisations. Despite the weather, over 50 people turned up to help plant, including sponsors and supporters, the Earley Orchard Group committee, some Erlegh Elfins, and UoR students. The mayor duly planted a Worcester Pearmain, and other sponsors planted their tree, assisted by other supporters. Afterwards, hot drinks, cake and biscuits were on offer in the Interpretation Centre; it felt like a real community effort. Thanks are due to Earley Town Council for negotiating the use of the site; to Grahame and Ashley for advice and practical support; to the sponsors and supporters, who made the idea come to life; and to the committee, for their enthusiasm and support. Now we need to monitor the progress, look after the trees - and look forward to our crops in a few years' time!
