Dawn Chorus in Maiden Erlegh LNROn Sunday 10th May, 18 brave souls rose earley (a 6.00am start) to join a walk about the Maiden Erlegh local nature reserve, led by Ray Reedman of the Berkshire Onrithological Club. We spent a couple of hours walking through the wooded areas, and around the lake and were rewarded with a multitude of sounds that were identified by Ray. We were also lucky in a few actual sightings of some of the birds, the highlight probably being a good view of a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming away for a while. During the walk, we were also treated to a nice view of a pair of foxes in the playing fields, some cormorants sunning themselves in the trees by the lake, and a common tern feeding over the lake. The complete list of birds heard and seen is given below in the order we heard/saw them. Each bird has a link through to the RSPB website where you can find links to listen to the birds songs, and see pictures / videos of the birds in action. The EEG would like to give many thanks to Ray for getting up early, especially as he had a long days trip to Dungeness the previous day! |
