Avian Pox in Earley

Great tit with Avian Pox lesion

Great Tit, taken in an Earley garden

Some of our members have noticed birds, particularly Great Tits, in their gardens with unsightly growths on their bodies. These have been confirmed by RSPB as suffering from Avian Pox, which isn't new to Britain, but appears to be seen more these days, and in different species. The photograph here gives a typical example. You can find out more information on the RSPB web site. There is also a form on the webste for reporing any cases that you see - the RSPB is still trying to find out the extent of the problem.
